Pivot, adjust to the “new normal”

During my reflective practice this month, I carved out specific space for 4th quarter goals ahead of September’s work. Nothing about our 2020 has been normal, and I suspect very little in the way we work, communicate, appreciate, and negotiate digital; shall be the same again.

In these times of accepting our new normal, a significant pivot even for a digital professional is the sheer amount of online engagement we are forced to participate in — while experiencing the highs and lows of remote work productivity, anxiety, and digital fatigue. If you are like me, you probably have invested in better conference-call equipment: a better webcam (or a DSLR + HDMI video capture device if you are adventurous), ring light, and potentially Bluetooth headphones. A great YouTube video I stumbled on with master cinematographer Larry Fong, that helps you turn our everyday living room set-up into a better home “studio” on a budget here.

At the start of the pandemic, USB-Executive Education & MasterStart had the pleasure of sharing on “Spotting Fake News” as a learn-as-we-go-process. Exhibit A:

Now that we are all “aficionados on navigating digital through COVID-19”; I took a leap of faith and upgraded to an OBS studios (free to download) set-up ahead of the inevitable: more Zoom professional calls, Facetime family conversations, and Instagram Live updates. The glow-up. #Resilience Exhibit B:

All this is excitingly ahead of The Data Gateway — What Does the Future Hold conversation I am psyched to have with our friends at HeavyChef, which has me moderating a money conversation with Olugbenga Agboola of payment platform Flutterwave and Jonathan Smit of PayFast in October, book early here.

If you missed the insightful conversation I had on the “Future of Work” and carrying it forward with PwC’s Ayesha Bedwei & her passion project Career 360do click here for the replay.

And finally, press play: for the latest episode of the Unpacking Africa podcast where Brian Mushongera speaks about pivoting, creating www.room.sh and Nike Anani on balancing family with Next-Gen business practices.

Be well, be safe, be loved.
